Grief related to change and loss encompasses a range of feelings from deep sadness. to guilt, yearning, anger, and regret. The process of adapting to a significant change and loss can vary dramatically from person to person and often depends on a person’s background, beliefs, and relationship to the change/loss. There's no right or wrong way to feel yet when these feelings remain unprocessed/denied/avoided for long periods of time a person may feel anxious, depressed, or stuck.
STAGES OF GRIEF
It is generally accepted that we go through 5 stages of grief when we experience loss:
Denial – feelings of shock, disbelief, panic or confusion
Anger – feelings and behaviours such as blaming yourself or blaming others and can include feelings of resentment
Depression – feeling tired, hopeless or helpless – like you have lost perspective or feel isolated
Bargaining – feelings of guilt often raise questions like "If only I had done things differently/been different"
Acceptance – this does not mean that you like the situation, it’s about accepting your loss and being ready to move forward
